Puerto Madryn encompasses a sense of commercial Argentina with a gateway to its prolific wildlife reserves at Peninsula Valdes. An exceptional centre for water sports like diving, windsurfing and parasailing, Puerto Madryn also offers the opportunity to watch the visiting right whales as they frolic with their calves. After exploring the city, enjoy a scenic drive south along the Gulf Nuevo coast to the Punta Loma sea lion rookery.
Witness the spectacle of a large colony of sea lions lazily sunning themselves along the shore. Punta Loma was the first reserve in Chubut, created in 1967 and protects the colony of South American sea lions that dwell on these shores all year long. With whales, sea lions and water sports, this tour promises an action packed day and the option of dabbling with adventure and nature!
Itinerary
Itinerary
This is a private tour. You will be picked up in an air-conditioned vehicle from your hotel in Puerto Madryn and taken on a
city tour of Puerto Madryn. An English-speaking guide will accompany you on this tour. Puerto Madryn is the fastest growing town in Patagonia and was founded by a group of Welsh settlers in 1865. Apart from being a centre for water sports such as diving, windsurfing and parasailing, Puerto Madryn is also a place to commune with nature.
Further on, travel for about 10 kilometers to the south along the Gulf Nuevo coast to arrive at Punta Loma, a large colony of sea lions (the Otaria Flavescens species). In December, the breeding males reach their sheltered part of the gulf and gather around the females, giving birth all along January and February to a 12-kilogram calf. In the Spring, well before the sea lions start their breeding season, the white-breasted and black-necked cormorants nest on the nearby cliffs thus producing this peculiar effect of a noisy nursery.
After observing the sea lions from close quarters, you will be dropped back to your hotel in Puerto Madryn.
